Companies love having me speak at their events because I am practical, detailed, and engaging. I am able to take practical, fundamental business principles and teach them in a way that anybody can understand and implement.

Since I have built my own six figure business, as well as interviewed hundreds of other creatives who have done the same, my talks are filled with insight from my own experience, as well as best practices I've learned from other successful creatives over the years.

Best of all, I am currently in the field, building my company every day, which means everything I bring into your podcast will be practical, boots on the ground information your audience can use right now.

In today's world, creatives must be able to combine commerce and creativity in order to succeed, and my mission is to give creatives all the actionable advice they need to build sustainable and successful careers.

One of the myths out their is that you really can't make a living out of your creative work.

Now all that has changed!

Thanks to the internet and the advancement in technology the door has been pushed wide open,  and just about any creative can land a great job, not just land a job they can also start their own thing doing what they love. Yes you could potentially get paid doing what you love by publishing your own works.

Interview with Author Learning Center

Creative entrepreneurs love the adventure of creating something from scratch. There is something to be said about the creative spirit. It is free, unfettered, and it takes you anywhere your imagination wishes. There is nothing to hold back the creative mind. When the spark of entrepreneurship ignites that creative spirit, ideas come fast. The sky is the limit at that point.
To be successful as a creative entrepreneur, though, you need to have business skills. And the determination to succeed. Business skills help you be realistic about being a creative entrepreneur. They help you account for revenue, profits, and expenses. They keep you organized and focus on goals. They drive your creative mission and provide the means to monetize that mission. They, most importantly, help you pay bills, buy clothes, and put food on your table.
In this episode, I talk with Russell Nohelty about being a creative entrepreneur. Russell offers budding entrepreneurs sound advice on honing in your business skills. And shows you how to be both a creative and an entrepreneur. Above that, Russell points out that being a creative entrepreneur is not a misnomer. You can be both a creative and a business person at the same time. To be successful, you need to align both your creative right brain and analytical left brain.

#GoalChats on Branding with Russell Nohelty

On #GoalChatLive this week Russell Nohelty, Wannabe Press, and I had a great conversation about Branding. Russell started the conversation with a branding exercise. Think of someone you love and what three words describe them. That is their brand. The same applies to you. Who you are, what you do, your mission and values, and how you present yourself are all part of your brand. And, while your branding may evolve over time, the core of who you are and what you believe in, should shine through.

Both the Sunday night #GoalChat conversation and Monday’s #GoalChatLive delved into the core reasoning behind branding, the value of consistency, and ways to reboot. However, Sunday’s chat spent more time on branding assets and Monday’s conversation with Russell had some wonderful examples and analogies. Like a good partnership between brands within the same niche, #GoalChat and #GoalChatLive complimented each other!

Interview with Russell Nohelty Creator of Ichabod Jones

Ichabod Jones is a Lovecraftian dark-fantasy comic inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's Dreamlands and Cthulhu mythos but set in a Christian Apocalypse from creator Russell Nohelty. Are you excited by stories that keep you on your toes and make you question the very fabric of reality? Then you are going to love Ichabod Jones Monster Hunter. Ichabod comes from a deep, almost primordial, place in my soul. It's the part that devours movies like In the Mouth of Madness, Event Horizon, and Jacob's Ladder, while still binging on Gravity Falls, Frankenweenie, and Army of Darkness. It's the part that read Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and laughed hysterically at every gruesome scene. Russell Nohelty is a USA Today bestselling author, publisher, and speaker. Russell is the author of many novels, along with the creator of the Ichabod Jones: Monster Hunter, Gherkin Boy, Pixie Dust, and Katrina Hates the Dead graphic novels. He also edited the Monsters and Other Scary Shit and Cthulhu is Hard to Spell anthologies. In this interview, Chad and Russell discuss the current Kickstarter for volumes I and II of Ichabod Jones.

#7 Selling Out with USA Today Best-Selling Fantasy and Science Fiction Author, Russell Nohelty

Creativity is what keeps me alive and I often don't feel like I'm being very creative.

I've always had an internal dialogue and maybe even conflict with what creativity means to me and for me. I don't know that creativity is tied to any specific art form. I do know that for me it's more of a feeling than a result. Once I stumble upon creativity, my goal is anti-gravity. But I can't drift too far, because then who will ever know that I found my creativity? Should that even matter?

There's one sentence in my conversation with USA Today best-selling science fiction and fantasy author, Russell Nohelty, that has stuck with me since we recorded this podcast together.

'The transmutation of a thesis argument'. That's the phrase we stumble upon to describe the creative core of Russell's universe.

In this episode we discuss:

  • The role of financial literacy in a creative life
  • How Russell handles feedback
  • Balancing creativity with commercialism
  • Internal and external sources of creative motivation
  • How Russell combats extreme anxiety with writing discipline
  • The process of working with artists to produce graphic novels
  • Finding your creative style or 'point of view'
  • The role of discipline in a creative life
  • The importance of finishing your work but also how to prioritise the work you choose to complete

Russell shares so much great advice from his life as a writer, podcaster, crowdfunder, coach, entrepreneur and all-round complete creative.
