Every step…

Every project you complete separates you one step further from your peers.

Even if they are bad projects, most people never make anything.

Even if they are just okay, that’s okay. Most people never get to okay.

Even if they are good but not great. That’s fine. Good is that good good.

If they are great, even better, but every time you make something, every blog you write or page you draw separates you from all the people on the come up.

And then, weirdly, that body of work starts to speak for you. It overwhelms people.

They start taking you seriously simply because your body of work exists.

Meanwhile, every project finished is another one to put on the stack that people have to climb to get where you are.

Then, you start looking around and thinking that everybody has the same body of work, but they don’t, because you are just looking across to see all the people that made it where you are. Tilt your head down and you’ll see the millions upon millions who are nowhere close.

Then, it becomes your job to lay the foundation for the next generation, to let them climb higher and faster than you.

But that’s a story for another day.
