Why do you need a Facebook group?

People ask me why they should start a reader or other type of groups often. I have never had a good comparison to show people, so I tried this one as a test. These nearly identical posts were posted at almost the same time. My reader group is on the LEFT and my page is on the RIGHT.

My reader group has 2.1K members My Facebook page has 3.2K likes. So the reader group is only 65% of my Facebook page. Yet my facebook has triple the comments and almost 5x the engagement of my Facebook page. This is pretty consistent across posts I’ve tried at different times in the day, but I’ve never posted nearly the same thing at the same time before.

So if you are having terrible engagement on your page, try to curate a group that will be filled with highly engaged people. There are plenty of ways to do that, none of which involve adding people to Facebook groups without their permission or knowledge. If you are doing that, then you are bound to have a terrible, low engagement group, because you haven’t curated the members for engagement.

If you can curate a good group, you’ll get WAY more engagement than if you just have a page, with the same amount of effort…and that is how you scale effectively. You do the same amount of work, but get better results from it.
